Liposuction
Post-operative instructions following liposuction or body contouring
Immediately After Surgery
• You will have small puncture incisions covered with absorbent pads — expect drainage of tumescent fluid for 24–48 hours. This is normal.
• Significant swelling and bruising in the treated areas is expected.
• Put on your compression garment before leaving the surgical center.
Compression Garment Protocol
• Weeks 1–3: Wear compression garment 24 hours a day. Remove only to shower. You will have your sutures removed at week 1
• Weeks 3–6: Wear during the day; remove at night.
• Weeks 6–12: Wear during exercise and prolonged activity.
• Consistent compression is critical for achieving smooth, even contour results.
Swelling Timeline
• Initial swelling peaks at days 2–4.
• Expect 60–70% improvement in swelling by 6 weeks.
• Final results are not visible until 3–6 months post-op. Be patient — swelling takes time.
• Treated areas may feel firm, lumpy, or uneven — this typically resolves as swelling subsides.
Activity
• Short walks: begin day 1.
• No strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 4 weeks.
• Light cardio (walking, stationary bike): after 2 weeks.
• Return to full exercise: 4–6 weeks with clearance.
Lymphatic Massage
• Lymphatic drainage massage is highly recommendedstarting 1–2 weeks post-op.
• It reduces swelling, speeds recovery, and improves contouring results.
• A referral or recommendation for a certified lymphatic massage therapist can be provided.
